Memoir Group Shares Their Stories

Lucy purchases a watermelon on her trip through the USSR.

We are so excited to bring to you the latest crop of inspiring and time- and space-transcending memoir stories from our talented colleagues in the Nita Regnier Memoir Writing Group. Once again, gathered over Zoom to hear snippets from the collected works featured in Volume 2 of the group's Selected Writings. Please view our recording of the Volume 2 reading on YouTube!

Led by administrator Anthony Farrell and class instructor Daphne Strassmann, we heard stories from returning memoirists Thom Opar, Lincoln Laboratory; Lucy Wilhelm, Division of Comparative Medicine (pictured above, in Ukraine!); Nancy DuVergne Smith, Alumni Association; and David Kettner, Lincoln Laboratory. We'll also experienced delightful tales from new group members Elaine Shiang, MIT Medical; and Ron Latanision, Lincoln Laboratory. Lastly, we'll previewed a selection from the recently-published memoirs of the late Larry Retman Young, Aeronautics and Astronautics. Our talk was recorded, and will be available on YouTube shortly. Stay tuned!

Once again, our thanks go out to our graphic designer Victor Park for assembling the 2020-21 and 2021-22 memoir publications.

The Nita Regnier Memoir Writing Group first debuted their stories from Volume 1 on November 18, 2020 via Zoom. The recording of this event can also be seen on YouTube. Viewers enjoyed five engaging stories from Nancy DuVergne Smith’s memories of her last volunteer gig at MIT's Commencement before retirement in 2018 to Lucy Wilhelm’s 1972 trip through the Iron Curtain.
