
On April 16th, DAPER welcomed members and guests of the Association of MIT Retirees to Rec Fest '25! We had a day of fun activity at the Zesiger Center, featuring instructors from MIT Recreation. Join us!
Schedule of Events, Wednesday, April 16th – MIT Retiree Rec Fest ‘25
- Sign up for a Chair Massage - located next to the Punj Conference Room
- We had a chair massage therapist at the Rec Fest, and boy was it a relaxing way to take a break after a workout!
- Golf Simulator in the DuPont – Rudovsky Indoor Golf Range
- Attendees learned basic stance and swing technique tips and then put them into practice! Our Golf Pro guided folks through the fundamentals and then facilitated a fun game on the golf simulator range.
- Mobility Taekwondo in the DuPont Tclub
- Our instructor hosted a group fitness martial arts class featuring flexibility and mobility designed for middle aged bodies and beyond!
- Lunch in the Z Center – Media Room
- Zan Barry, PsyD, Manager of Programs at Community Wellness at MIT Health, shared about 7 essential mental activities for healthy brains.
- "How can we use our minds to enhance our brains? Just as a nutritious diet is made up of a variety of nutrients, taking care of the brain can include a variety of mental activities. In this workshop, we discussed seven activities in particular that are associated with maintaining and optimizing brain health throughout life."
- Components of an Exercise Program – Media Room
- Next, we heard from Dr. Shawn Ferullo, who shared the FITT principle and the four foundational components to consider when creating an exercise prescription plan for improved health. Shawn Ferullo, MD is the Deputy Chief Health Officer and a Family/Sports Medicine Physician at MIT Health.
