plus lunch at The Captain Kidd Restaurant and Bar, and a visit to the Aquarium and local attractions.

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is the world’s leading, independent non-profit organization dedicated to ocean research, exploration, and education. WHOI scientists and engineers push the boundaries of knowledge about the ocean to reveal its impacts on our planet and our lives.

You may know that MIT and WHOI has a joint five-year doctoral degree program in Oceanography/Applied Ocean Science and Engineering. The combined strengths of MIT and WHOI provide research and educational opportunities in scientific and engineering disciplines that contribute to ocean science.

7:30am: Our travel director Kathleen Griffin welcomes you on this fantastic outing! The first departure is from MIT’s Cambridge Campus at the Westgate Lot, 282 Vassar Street. Complimentary parking in the Westgate Lot.

8:15am: Bus departs from Lincoln Laboratory. Complimentary parking.

10:30am-12:30pm: On our guided tour and visit to the Discovery Center, we’ll learn about WHOI’s programs, its expansive and critical research, plus get a glimpse of ships, underwater vehicles, and ocean observatories. The WHOI staff will be ready to field your questions after the tour.

1:00-2:30pm: Just a few steps from WHOI, we’ll get some time to catch up with each over lunch at The Captain Kidd. Your entrée selections accompanied by rice pilaf and vegetables are: Baked codfish with herb panko crumbs & cranberry compound butter; oven roasted salmon with orange soy glaze; chicken piccata with lemon caper sauce; or a vegetarian entrée. Dessert is chocolate mousse with whipped cream. Soft drinks, coffee, and tea are included. Alcohol is on your own.

2:30-3:30pm: Visit the aquarium or take a pleasant stroll to check out other attractions or shopping in Woods Hole.

3:30pm: We head back home; estimated arrival is 5:00pm at Lincoln Laboratory and 5:45pm in Cambridge.
